Jackson County is known as THE big buck county of Alabama, and this is one of the very best hunting properties I’ve personally been on here in the county! There are many attributes that make it top-notch. First is the variety in habitat, the property is about half mature hardwood timber and half young timber. The mature oaks provide acorns during the fall and are stunning to ride through and explore. The thick stem count of the young timber provides bedding and browse that deer need during fall/winter. The pockets of various aged timber stands are in somewhat of a patchwork pattern along the ridge making for a tremendous edge effect. Six food plots are also strategically located, with 2 of them being large destination type plots and the others ideal “honey hole/kill plots”. Check out the interactive map and you will notice the trails/roads are dotted in pink, the plots are outlined in a peach color. Another key characteristic is that the location is tucked back away from development. There are very view houses near the borders of the property and some larger landowners surrounding it. Accessed is via a 40’ deeded easement coming in from Tupelo Pike from the east, bold orange line on the map. The road coming in and getting around the property is in very good condition and a 4x4 pickup can drive most of the property. There are over 2 miles of trails/roads and they are laid out with hunting access in mind so that you can hunt multiple hunters on the tract and still not spook the deer. They also make excellent walking, hiking, horse or UTV trails to enjoy year-round. Another main reason it is excellent hunting is the area in general - there are some large landowners around and crop fields adjacent to this property that provide summer food and this is the holding cover for the wildlife. This tract is the heart of this mountain range and the number of draws, finger ridges and funnels is unbelievable. There is tremendous diversity in the plant life here as well. The midstory story species and ground species are diverse and is a place of year-round beauty.
