As tensions arose between the Mexican government and American settlers in Texas, the Texas Revolution was sparked in 1835, after which Texas became an independent republic. In 1845, Texas became the 28th state – which led to increased tensions between the US and Mexico and ultimately led to the Mexican-American War between 1846-1848. After the Civil War and Reconstruction eras, the early 20th century brought the discovery of oil and ushered in industrialization and economic growth.
